What should I expect on my first visit?

We allocate 30 minutes for the initial assessment and evaluation. At this session we will take a complete detailed history and examination, a discussion of the examination findings and outline of the treatment plan proposed. We usually commence treatment on the first appointment and then plan for subsequent reviews at a time that is convenient for you and fits in with the treatment plan.

How long will subsequent sessions last?

All sessions will last approximately 30 mins. Sometimes sessions can run over time slightly and we apologise for delays and any inconvenience caused by this. We do our best to keep to schedule and it is extremely rare that we will be running more than 10 minutes behind.

Some neurological conditions may require longer to assess and treat. If you are attending with such a condition we would appreciate if you mention at the time of booking your appointment so that we can allocate you the appropriate amount of time.

What does an assessment with a physiotherapist involve?

Physiotherapy assessment starts with a detailed history of all relevant medical facts together with review of any x-rays or MRI scans GP or consultant reports which you may have received. It is very important that this information is a discussed because it can influence the type of treatments that are undertaken and may indicate if further tests or referrals are required.

The second part of the assessment involves physical examination. This typically involves a visual assessment of the area in question (obviously we advise that you dress appropriately in order to allow for inspection).

The physiotherapists will then conduct a series of tests asking you for information and feedback as they are performed. These tests typically involve looking at movement, testing muscle function, manually examining the problem area, and functional tests to assess current status. The physiotherapist will usually then palpate the area to get a tactile feel for what the issue is.

All of this information is then evaluated and a report of the findings is disclosed with you. From there the treatment options available, the number of treatments required and the expected outcome will be discussed.

How many treatment sessions will I require?

The number of treatments required very much depends on the severity and type of condition. Usually we can get a clear indication after the initial assessment and treatment what the likely time course for recovery is.

There would be no question of being forced into speculative treatment programs where the outcome is uncertain or feeling pressurized into booking appointments which you do not want or require. This is our promise to you.

What forms of treatment are used?

Usual treatments involve some form of hands-on treatment involving manipulation, mobilization, stretching, muscle strengthening, postural realignment and functional rehabilitation. We also utilize electromodalities where appropriate.

Do you provide orthotics?

Yes. Gerard Tyrrell MISCP has an advanced diploma in qualification in orthotic prescription and biomechanical assessment. We use the most up to date foot scanning device to provide the quickest turn around time of production with the most accurate and comfortable orthotics available.

How much does a consultation cost?

Consultations cost €55.00.

How much do orthotics cost?

Custom fitted orthotics cost €250.00

Am I covered by my Health Insurance?

All chartered physiotherapists are approved by health insurance companies. There are many factors which influence the remuneration for physiotherapy services and it would depend on the type of policy, the number of treatments and the total amount of medical expenses accumulated within one subscription year. We would advise that you discuss with your health insurer to determine what level of reimbursement you are entitled to. All treatment fees are settled directly with Tyrrell Physiotherapy at the time of treatment and a receipt will be provided. Your invoices can then be submitted to your health insurer in order to receive remuneration.

If you are insured with Irish Life Health and have Back/Neck pain you may be covered by the Irish Life Health Back-Up Programme. This allows you to access up to 8 sessions for a once off payment of just €50.00at your second consultation.

Additionally you may be entitled to tax credits / reimbursement through the “Med 1” scheme for medical expenses. These forms are available online and can be downloaded from the revenue online services ROS for submission at the end of the financial year. You will need a referral from a medical practitioner to claim for this tax relief.

Do you have parking facilities?

Yes there is ample parking available in the Boroimhe Shopping centre carpark. There are reserved disabled spaces directly in front of the clinic entrance with immediate access to the building.

Do you have disabled facilities?

Yes, our clinic was built to be fully accessible by all users with a lift up to the clinic and multiple disabled access toilets and parking spaces. We are fully wheelchair compliant with a spacious treatment room.

What are your opening hours?

The daily schedule varies according to annual leave and demand for appoitnments.

Usual opening hours are:
Monday: 9:30 – 21:30
Tuesday: 9:30 – 21:30
Wednesday: 9:30 – 19:30
Thursday: 9:30 – 21:30
Friday: 9:30 – 16:30

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

We would appreciate if appointments were cancelled more than 24 hours prior to the appointment time. If you do not show up for your appointment or fail to cancel 24 hours prior to your appointment we may apply a fee for non attendance.
